| Why Polaroid? I asked myself that same question when i bought my first 10 dollar for 10 shots pack of polaroid film. But the answer to the question lies not in the cost but in the outcome of the photographs themsleves. The cost is really no more, and actually less than paying for film, processing and prints for the 120 film i shoot in the holga so cost really doesn't matter. What really appeals to me about polaroid photography is the image itself. It is really difficult to take a bad picture with a polaroid camera it think. This is because the color that the film produces is just always appealing (at least to me). Also within minutes of shooting the picture you have confirmation ON FILM that the image is good. You don't have to go to your computer and then print it out, the image is right there! also it keeps you from make digital manupulation of what the image looks like, for example color corection. What you see is what you get with polaroid. Its that simple, and there is the appeal of polaroid photography. simplicity... and now for some rambling. The other night i was talking photography with one of my friends (this is something i end up talking about with alot of my friends, anyways) we started talking about how when we first got into photography we would always try and shoot slide film and use the most expensive films and cameras and filters and hooplah to try and get the best photograph possible. Only now have we realized that photography isn't just about the quality of the photograph, it is about creating a pleasing composition of capturing a moment or just letting someone else see the world that you do and to do that you don't need have all the best equipment or film you just need to know who you are and what you are doing with your photography. I think that one of the best ways to realize this is to make a box and put a little pieceof metal witha pinhole on one side and expose some paper or film inside of it just to see how simple photography can be, |
